The Burning House – the Anthropologist

Anthropologie’s ANTHROPOLOGIST focused on a project by Foster Huntington, documenting what items people would take from their home if it were burning. I had seen a couple of these images before didn’t spend as much time with them as I did on this site. The photos alone they are not the most interesting on their own but fun to look at together and the curious in me loves to see what people think they would grab first — like a Chanel lipstick or a framed $100 bill, a bet of two friends on if the other would marry the girl he had just had his first date with (guess they did).

Having grown up in the city and paranoia instilled in me by my brave parents, I often think about what I would grab first.. Husband, two cats and myself aside, I’m not sure what else I would take.. definitely not classy enough to say lipstick, or sentimental enough for one framed piece (how could I choose?) Perhaps my kitchenaid mixer, but that would just be unpractical. I guess my ’69 Fender Mustang, because I would like to think my future children will be rock stars, or at least pretend to be one like their mom did.. and a pair of shoes, because living next door to a bar means being barefoot on my street is almost as scary as a fire.
