10 minutes with Billy Delfs

Interviews with Photographers June 6, 2011 7:25 am

When did you first know that you wanted to be a photographer?

When I was able to photograph and write stories about my friends and first getting published, I was hooked. That was the best feeling early on for sure!

Who would your dream subject be?

The President, actually. I am not the most political, but to photograph the person who runs our country would be a great experience I think. Everything that would be involved around that shoot would be fantastic; from the clearances, to the pressure, and to it being historical.

What is your daily routine like, when you are not on assignment?

Emailing and phone calls with potential clients, editing, prints for my books, coming up with new self assigned projects, shooting. I try to work on at least two new projects a year.

If you could go back 10 years and give yourself advice, what would it be?

To work on more projects early on. I have learned more with these past few projects then I did before making single images.

Any words of wisdom for the up-and-comers?

Work with someone whose work you love and try to work for them for as long as you can. If your interests change, find someone else’s work that moves you.
