Masahisa Fukase

Masahisa Fukase took these photos (from the series Karasu (Ravens) beginning in 1975, on a train ride from Tokyo to Hokkaido after his divorce from his wife. They were published in 1986 and in 2010 a panel of five selected by the British Journal of Photography announced Karasu as the best published photography book published between 1986 and 2009. Sadly, Masahisa is currently in a coma after suffering brain injury from a fall in 2010.
