David Leventi and the Opera

My mom once told me about an installation she saw years and years ago. You walk in and there is a huge red velvet curtain and nothing else. And then you listen and you hear intense breathing, the breathes of dancers. You heard the sounds that they made every time they leaped, the grunts and exhales, the exhaustion of it all. The dancers were recorded but not shown. I appreciate the silence in these photos. It’s fantastic to go on to David’s website and look at each opera house one by one, the similarities and the differences of them and all the while imagining the sounds that come out of there.
