10 Minutes with Matt Eich

Interviews with Photographers December 9, 2010 10:46 am

Name: Matt Eich

Location: Norfolk, Virginia

I woke up this morning feeling: tired, a little hungover and really happy to be home.

My dream assignment: Any assignment that keeps me working on a story I care about and keeps my family fed.

If cameras all turned to stone, I would probably be: a musician, a shipwrecked soul?

If I started a magazine, it would be on: LUCEO is starting a magazine and I am excited to see how it evolves

I am inspired by: openness, intimacy and the universality of human experience.

I am discouraged by: some of the obstacles encountered in trying to make a living as a photographer, but that discouragement pales every time a person or a place opens up to me.

An editor is most helpful when: they encourage me to, in the words of Phil Bicker, “Go, see, feel and bring back pictures” and when they understand how important time is to forge relationships while making images.
