Subway Pictures

My earliest memories of the subway are the ones covered in graffiti.. now I reminisce about the trains of the ’80’s, but as a child it was anything but romantic. I started taking the train by myself right before I turned 13, and that feeling of independence was like what I imagine getting your first car feels like. Despite how stinky it can get in the summer, how crowded it is during rush hours and how expensive it is getting, you have to feel part of something when you are smooshed against an older gentleman in a fine suit and a woman talking loudly about Jesus (that was this morning). Love the slideshow the Times put together on the history of the subways, here. And still, my favorites are the ones with graffiti.
